Owned and managed by former TBA Award winner, Roisin Close with the help of her partner Phil, Bucklands Farm is set in over 70 acres of the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside.
Roisin established Bucklands Farm & Stud whilst working at Tweenhills Farm & Stud where she spent 12 years, as Stud Groom managing four stallions and up to 300 mares during the breeding season, as well as preparing yearlings and breeding stock for the sales.
Hellvelyn was the first stallion to stand at Bucklands Farm & Stud in 2011. A Gr.2 Royal Ascot winning two-year-old, Hellvelyn has produced some very exciting two-year-olds, led by Gr.3 winner and Stakes performer La Rioja and Gr.3 and stakes performer Bonnie Grey. In addition, his two-year-olds are continue to shine with over 60% winners to runners in 2016.
He offers great returns at the sales for breeders, in 2016 his two-year-olds averaged 10 times his stud fee.
Coach House retired to Bucklands Farm & stud in 2015, a precocious son of Oasis Dream he was a high-class two-year-old for Aidan O'Brien and the Coolmore partners, winning a 5f Tipperary maiden by nearly seven lengths and following up with an easy victory in the Listed Marble Hill Stakes over the same distance at the Curragh. On his next start he broke the juvenile course record when second to No Nay Never in the Gr.2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot and next time out he finished third to Sudirman and Big Time in the Gr.2 Railway Stakes, on what proved to be his final racecourse start.
He had a fantastic start in 2015 covering a book of 110 mares including the dams of 2yo Group and stakes winners Tasleet, Arpinati, Fortunately, Hung Parliment, Shamandar, etc.
Due to the studs success a second farm has recently been acquired to allow for continued expansion.
Bucklands Farm & Stud
Having started riding as a child, Roisin went on to study Equestrian Business Management upon leaving school. She gained her BHSAI and subsequently spent a year in the industry before going back to college to specialise in Stud Breeding Management.
The central part of the course was a year's work placement at Taylor Made Farm in Lexington, Kentucky. This proved to be the springboard into a passion for Thoroughbred Breeding. Special thanks for securing this placement go to Professor David Powell of the Maxwell H. Gluck Equine Research Center at the University of Kentucky. During her 18 month placement Roisin looked after many top quality horses, including User Friendly, Mariah's Storm & Sky Beauty to name but a few, and learnt many invaluable lessons in Thouroughbred breeding & husbandry.
On returning to England Roisin worked for Ted Voute sales & Lanwades stud before taking a position at Tweenhills Farm & Stud in Gloucestershire.
Roisin joined Tweenhills as Stallion Person after owner David Redvers had been impressed by her showing ability and confidence at the sales. Within a year of joining, Tweenhills’ stud groom left and Roisin - through hard work and dedication - made the role her own.
In 2011 Roisin left to set up her own operation on the other side of Hartpury: this is now Bucklands Farm & Stud.
